12 years ago today, I opened my doors to the first ever @creativemorning in NYC.

Today this engine of generosity is in 219 cities and 67 countries.

All of the gratitude to our 1,500 volunteers for tirelessly facilitating human connection.

Recently a woman stopped me on the street and said:

“Hi, you don’t know me, but I just wanted you to know I met my husband at a @creativemorning in 2016. He was sitting next to me during the talk and now we have a kiddo!”

Points at stroller. ❤️

In 2014 I invited @cindygallop to speak. The venue tech didn’t show. We had no lights, no projector or mics. I told Cindy she could leave as this is not what she signed up for. “Nah Tina!” She made everyone huddle close. “I can project, I got this!”

In 2013 Seth Godin agreed to speak in NYC. That was a game changer and a confidence boost for me to invite other established speakers.

I remember so many of our attendees streaming into the auditorium looking at me giddily saying “OMG Seth Godin!” https://creativemornings.com/talks/seth-godin/9
Our second ever @creativemorning was generously hosted at @hugeinc (which at the time was not huge.) We had a packed house and after the event the CEO came up to me and introduced himself. I told him he interviewed me 7 years prior.

"I did? I didn't hire you? Damn!"
The first two years of @creativemorning had many very unglamorous moments. I remember this event where the company that invited us to use their space seemed to have forgotten they offered. Nobody knew what was happening. So, I just started pushing furniture around.
Or what about when @OliverJeffers spoke in a big giant board room in 2010?! Oh my!
In 2019 we invited @OliverJeffers back. This time, the venue was mighty impressive. (Thank you @cooperunion for that magical morning!)
5 months into running @creativemorning, I received this email from @benchestnut. I suggested @Mailchimp could sponsor breakfast. They did. And have supported us *ever since*. 11.5 years!

Thank you for believing in me, Ben!

(Fun fact: They were 13 employees at the time.)
In 2011 our Atlanta host @matchsticblake convinced @benchestnut to speak. I had invited him numerous times in NYC but was told he was a germaphobe and doesn't like to fly. Watch his talk, he debunked that myth. It was all a white lie. I laughed so hard. https://creativemornings.com/talks/ben-chestnut/6
In 2014 we invited our @creativemorning organizers to Brooklyn, for a global summit: Seeing 175 digital avatars, from all around the world, come to live, hugging each other was the most moving moment of my life. Our organizers are big giant balls of love and generosity.
If you run a distributed community, get them in a room. Celebrate them! It changes everything.
And when you can't get them in a room, because of a global pandemic, redefine the room. Find new ways to make heart-forward connections. @creativemorning is gathering digitally for now, but we will be back, hugging and pouring each other coffees. https://creativemornings.com/talks/upcoming?kind=fieldtrip
I love you @creativemorning community. Happy 12th birthday, wherever you are in the world. https://creativemornings.com/cities
