I do not condone internet harassment or dogpiling on people in any way.

However let's not pretend that this thread, that reeked of privilege and bad takes, didn't hurt people because it did and this person said in the first sentence they knew exactly what they were doing. https://twitter.com/Beavs/status/1314973476843732993
If we're going to be discussing mental health in art community, let's never forget that it goes both ways. Harassing strangers on the internet is disgusting and inexcusable behavior. So is throwing such a bunch of insensitive words on a big number of people in art community.
Getting recognized or appreciated is not a matter of skill alone. A white person with tens of thousands of stable following can say it is, but it absolutely isn't. It's a matter if privilege, luck, connections, and financial stability, among other things.
There is so many, so many artists who have skills over the roof and a beautiful style, but never manage to broaden their audience and make a stable career. Why? Because they don't have the aforementioned things. They're simply not privileged or lucky.
Tell this "your skills just aren't good enough" to thousands of poor, POC, marginalized artists who are fighting tooth and nail to establish an audience without much success because they don't have the same lucky circumstances that famous artists had.
This artist did just that, speak from a place of extreme privilege, in such an insensitive, I-know-you'll-get-angry way and without acknowledging any of these factors, discouraging hundreds of people who try and practice, just to get a point of "I don't owe u anything" across.
It's true, right, you don't owe anyone anything, there was no need for such a passively insulting thread just to be able to say that. Trying to "enlighten" thousands of struggling artists simply calls for being considerate with your words and understanding your privilege.
This thread was neither of the two, and it literally started with "I know you'll get angry" so... what was the point? It did not offer any constructive advice to anyone, it was completely unnecessary, why tell all these insensitive things and then blame people for being upset?
Big and successful artists are a small and privileged part of art community, and it costs them nothing to boost and support smaller artists. I have no idea what this person was trying to prove with such an awful thread, but let's not pretend it was harmless. Because it wasn't.
