A thread on the media and why their hatred of Trump points to a Trump re-election:
I& #39;m a big believer in the phrase "follow the money." People do what is in their own self-interest. Sometimes you have to dig a bit to figure out what that self-interest is - but it& #39;s there. 1/

For 4+ years, most mainstream media sources -- the main networks, CNN, MSNBC, NYT, NPR, WaPo, and many others -- have been strongly anti-Trump. They don& #39;t even try to conceal it. The advocacy is mixed with (and overtakes) the facts in their "reporting." 2/
Heck, even Fox News has become largely adversarial to Trump the past couple of years.
Why? It sells.
Contrary to what we may think, the media is not here to educate or to get the facts correct. They are here to sell. They& #39;re a business, and businesses need customers. 3/

What sells best? Certainly not the truth. Certainly not reasoned and rational takes.
What sells best is fear and anger. Get people scared, and/or get them angry, and they& #39;ll keep tuning in. They& #39;ll keep following your social media. They& #39;ll buy your books. 4/

It follows from that point that Donald J. Trump was (and is) a godsend to the media industry. He& #39;s an easy target. He& #39;s loud, brash, prone to self-praise ... oh, and he& #39;s filthy rich. Not to mention that he is a straight white male Republican. 5/
It& #39;s easy to make Trump the target. It& #39;s simple to point out his alleged blunders (some of them real, to be sure), and then to make the viewers believe that those blunders are why *they* are not doing better in their lives. 6/
But here& #39;s the thing - it& #39;s a symbiotic relationship. The media may hate Trump, but they need him. He sells like few other subjects sell. And he actually seems to like being the bad guy. He gets energized by it, where most others would be crushed. 7/
What happens if Biden (who, BTW, is the singularly worst Presidential candidate in modern times) wins? The big, bad Trump boogeyman goes away. There& #39;s suddenly a gaping hole where Trump used to be. 8/
The many, many media members who& #39;ve made livings doing nothing but lazily mailing in anti-Trump screeds will now have to find a new target. And Biden ain& #39;t it. They suddenly won& #39;t be able to make money just by screaming about the Bad Orange Man. 9/
And that& #39;s why the media actually wants Trump to be re-elected. They need him. Superman needed Lex Luthor. Batman needed the Joker. Ohio State needs Michigan. They lose what has become their raison d& #39;etre over the past four years if Trump goes down. 10/
Always, always, always follow the money. And the money in this case is all that easy money that can continue to be made by selling the anti-Trump fear and anger for four more years. 11/11
