I think what’s particularly awful about this is that the Government didn’t just own it. Why not have a Minister or Official write and tell @SkylineCentral1 residents and their MP that they had been deliberately excluded for a specific policy purpose?
To put residents already hit with life changing bills to make their homes safe through instigating JR action to get a response is reprehensible. The Govt has repeatedly said “building owners should do the right thing” which in most cases is meaningless rhetoric. They have ‘named
and shamed’ a number of Freeholders who didn’t do this and then subsequently provided funding for the work to those buildings & deliberately chosen not to protect residents in buildings where work has been instigated to make residents safe. The decision to exclude buildings on a
documented policy ground may not be ‘irrational’ in the legal sense for a successful judicial review however the whole approach to this sorry mess is absolutely irrational.
Where does this leave those residents in the 2700 buildings waiting for news from the Building Safety Fund - do they press on with plans so they can access the funding which according to the Prospectus must be spent by March 2021 or do they wait to see if they are eligible?
It’s no wonder that so many residents report a significant impact on their #MentalHealth when the #EndOurCladdingScandal becomes more of a lottery by the day. There should be no gambling with people’s lives or homes. They deserve clarity and certainty.
