how to study for your standardized test (SAT/ACT): a thread

1) choose what test you want to take.
You have 2 options, the SAT and the ACT. I personally prefer the SAT bc there are a lot of resources that you can study from and bc it doesn’t have a mandatory science section. The duration is also way better than the ACT.

2) REGISTER FOR YOUR EXAM!!
Make sure to register for your exam before it’s too late because seats are limited and especially during the pandemic!! Here are the test dates and registration deadlines for both standardized tests.

3) Manage your time.
Make sure to manage your time and set a schedule so that you have enough time to study for your exam and your school studies. This is a very crucial step that can seriously affect your score.

4) study resources.
When I took the ACT I used the official ACT prep guide/pack and it was very helpful. Sadly there weren’t many books to actually help me with problems that I wasn’t familiar with so YT was a lifesaver. (1/2)

But with the SAT, we found many amazing and helpful books that will guarantee you a 1500+. These are the books that we study from. (2/2)
5) go on Reddit.
the SAT sub is VERY helpful. It gives you tips on time management, how to raise your score by a specific number (100/300+) and more.

6) SAT subject tests.
the SAT has many subject tests (physics, biology, history, math 2, etc).
check if the university that you’re applying to requires or recommends taking an SAT subject test. If you’re applying to med school or want to major in STEM (1/2)

I recommend that you take at least one subject test. Don’t rely on what I’m saying here (I’m not taking or planning on taking a subject test) please check with your admissions officer and your counselor. (2/2)
7) essays.
The SAT/ACT essay is optional BUT I personally recommend taking it because it’ll make your application process easier with some universities. But like I said it’s not required so check with your counselor and admissions officer.

And that’s it! If I remember any more tips I’ll be sure to add them later on. Everyone is welcome to adding to this thread and if you have any questions you can dm me or reply to this thread. Good luck
