It's so strange to think that Dracula takes place only like 30 years before The Great Gatsby. If THE SIMPSONS started during the events of Dracula, it would still be on the air during The Great Gatsby.
A child who escaped from the bloofer lady by hailing a horse-drawn carriage on a gaslit cobblestone street could, in their 30s, be drinking champagne and dancing to jazz at one of Gatsby's parties. It's ridiculous how close together in time these stories are.
My favourite responses to this are the people who don't find this strange because they are smart, serious people who understand the CONTEXT and THE HISTORY and HOW TIME WORKS.

They are so much smarter than me, a simple gal who has never even heard of World War 1.
