So,it's Breast cancer awareness month. After my pinned post yesterday, I received a DM asking if men can get breast cancer.
The answer is YES but it's rare. It is most common in women
Male breast cancer is more common in older men but it occurs at any age
Men have breast tissue, most people don't realise this, and any cells in your body can get cancerous, ergo breast cancer in men
Symptoms to look out for include:
-a painless lump/thickening in your breast tissue.
-changes in your breast skin e.g scaling, puckering etc
- changes to you nipple e.g turning inwards, scaling
Factors that increase chances of male breast cancer include:
-old age
- exposure to oestrogens e.g oestrogen related drugs used in treatment of prostate cancer.
- family history of breast cancer.
- Klinefelter's. syndrome where a male is born with an extra copy of X-chromosome.
-Liver disease such as cirrhosis which reduces male hormones and increase female hormones in your body.
-obesity which is associated with higher oestrogen in the body.
