Twice a week, part of my job involves throwing cardboard boxes into the back of the "box truck." The guy who drives the truck has almost all the characteristics of a stereotypical Trump voter -- including most of Trump's vices -- but the guy *loathes* Trump & stans Kamala. (1/n)
I'm talking about a guy who is *overtly* bigoted towards women (complains about women drivers, gets mad at women who walk in front of the truck but not men, calls women "bitch" constantly), whose chief complaint about Trump is "that motherfucker doesn't treat women right!" (2/n)
He's a guy who, despite having personally experienced small-town police brutality, is a Thin Blue Line bootlicker. (3/n)
Here's a guy with stereotypically Trumpian beliefs -- pro-cop, pro-war, anti-BLM, sexist, racist (complains about Laotians in the part of NH we're from), loudly patriotic. He's incapable of understanding how similar he is to Trump, and how similar Trump is to Biden (4/n)
Ironically, he agrees with me that the mainstream political order is falling apart -- but he openly admitted to me that he doesn't really care how it turns out, since by the time things really get bad he'll be dead (5/n)
My truck driver coworker can't see the contradiction between his admiration for Kamala Harris, on the one hand, and his constantly sexist remarks on the other; he's freaked out about Laotians and other migrant populations, yet likes the fact that Kamala's biracial (6/n)
This thread might come across as weaksauce liberalism, given that it's about his personal behavior, and there's nothing much surprising in an old white guy's bigotry. But I have had to deal with his anti-Trump rants every Tuesday and Thursday for a while, FFS. (7/n)
It's one thing to know, intellectually, that Biden and Trump share core voting blocs. It's one thing to understand intellectually that Biden and Trump's projects are compatible.

The thing that gets me is the way he always, without fail, yells "GET A JOB!" to the homeless people holding signs who stand on a particular highway divider that's adjacent to one of the stores where we pick up boxes.
