Sometimes, before I call out things (especially if it is controversial) I wait until a white person does it. Why? Because if I am accused of having made that comment only because I donât love the country, or I shouldnât make that comment because I come from a sh*t hole country...
I can point to the white person who is presumed to not share these characteristics that made the similar comments. It is one of the many ways I self police. I have heard other POC say things like I canât say that. It is interesting, free speech, ainât free.
This always reaffirmed to me who is allowed the full participation in âcitizenshipâ. If Bolt criticise Australia, it is because he loves the country and wants it improved. If I do, it is because I donât. Certain people are permitted the full measure of being accepted, for example
they are allowed to criticise, or to fail. Migrants must always be grateful and prove through success, why they should be accepted. You know these things, no wrong steps, watch your mouth, know the line, push at your own risk.
