I really would like to see more information on mediation for neurodivergent people because I feel like the typical tips don't work well for us.
Like a lot of times people talk about meditation meaning you need to sit still. That's not the case, but because it's promoted that way it leaves a lot of people thinking meditation can't be accessible to them.
I often see people talking about needing to "clear your mind" for meditation. That isn't really necessary. But it being promoted that way means a lot of neurodivergent people assume meditation would be inaccessible.
I struggle with the overload aspects of increasing awareness of my surroundings. But that just means my mindfulness should include hearing protection and stim tools.
I'm only just learning how to meditate. It's kind of tricky! But don't listen to someone who tells you you can't meditate while stimming. Mindfulness meditation is about becoming aware of the present situation and your bodily sensations.
So to me, part of mindfulness and the practice of meditation is fully feeling bodily sensations, including the need to move and the need for protection from excessive sensory stimuli
Mindfulness and meditation are about learning to be fully engaged in the moment and present in your body... including when doing things like stimming.
"In any case, the point is not to try to get rid of thoughts, but rather to see their true nature. Thoughts will run us around in circles if we buy into them, but really they are like dream images. They are like an illusion. Not really all that solid." - Pema Chödrön
