gon and kurapika are indigenous; a thread

disclaimer: none of this is canon!!! all of this is a theory!!! i also don’t know shit about shit, so take this thread with a grain of salt

so, we all know that kurapika is from the kurta clan, but how does that make him indigenous? well, the kurta clan was a small ethnic group from the lukso province which is shown to be a very green mountainous area

though the hxh wiki says that the kurta clan could have been a reference to the kurds in the middle east, i disagree.

so what indigenous group is kurapika from? i believe the kurta clan is meant to be a parallel to the ainu people who live in the northern, mountainous areas of japan.

some ainu physical traits are blue eyes, light skin, and brown hair. in the 1999 version of hxh, kurapika had blue eyes and has a pale complexion.

but kurapika has blonde hair! yes, he does, but his best friend, pairo, has brown hair.

as for gon, he’s from whale island. his family has inhabited whale island for at least three generations (him, ging and mito, and his grandmother)

i believe whale island is meant to represent okinawa. if this is true, this means that gon is ryukyuan.

some ryukyu traits are course, dark hair (and lots of it), a shorter stature, and dark skin.

now, ik gon is only 12 and he’s still a growing boy, but let’s take a look at ging.

according to the hxh wiki, ging seems to be short, has black hair, and can grow facial hair (a lot of asians can’t really grow facial hair)

ik gon and ging don’t necessarily have dark skin, but compared to kurapika and killua, he’s most definitely got a darker complexion.

he’s basically the same shade as leorio who grew up in what looks to be a dry, desert like country

in conclusion, gon is ryukyu and kurapika is ainu
