It makes me sad that they try to make Black politics so limited in imagination, it becomes a local->national feedback loop of mayors who squash dissent supporting the author of the crime bill & a prosecutor—all the while hectoring Black voters to want nothing more than crumbs.

The Black political class uses Blackness as cover to squash the political imagination. Clyburn squashes Bernie. Obama squashes the NBA strike. Former prosecutor Harris squashes the abolitionism of voters. These mayors have their cops beat the crap of BLM protesters.

Then, VOTE!

Then they throw in a “on fire” & “yasss queen” & “you go” & they get Beyoncé & Jay-Z & RuPaul & Billy Porter, &. they try to conflate Blackness & Black culture with awful DNC politics & they reduce the political & cultural possibilities of Blackness to...defending fracking

I should have said almost every mayor—I can’t speak for all of them. But most sent cops this summer to crack skulls. Many of them have made Black ppl (Breed, Lightfoot) needlessly homeless. Most perform a kind of grotesque Black performance while enacting anti-Black governance.

Part of my disillusion over the years has been in learning that there is no succor in most Black politicians, local or national. Certainly not in any Black Democrats. They will gas and bash the heads in faster than white pols. Baldwin warned of a similar dynamic—in 1967!
