I wanna talk about this mix in detail. "Return Of The Jak" a thread.
I came up with the name for it based on 3 different things. 1. I'm a 90s baby so I grew up watching samurai jack then I watched it when it came back to be finished. 2. Return of the mack by mack morrison is a jam forever. -
And 3. It fits so well with my return. It's a mixture of all 3 things. Samurai jack didn't come back and finish till a year or 2 go so then it was literally the return of the jack. Mixing the song and the show is how Return Of The Jak came to be.
That alone speaks on how the intro came to be. It was a part of return of the mack. I used what I can do to make it my own. Return Of The Jak.
The cover itself came from my homie @DanLbiv after I pitched the ideo for what this mix was gonna be about. An all underground mix. It was symbolic of me being underground and rising back up.
The track after the intro was perfect to me A @soulzaytx track. While he's a dallas based artist he reps Dj Screw and that alone has me being a fan of his. He's underground but deserves to be mainstream with them bars he's got. He's gonna blow and I'm speaking that into existence
The next is a track by @WAVYXJONES and just mentioning his name is enough. Straight bars and the content just catches me when come out with something.
After that is WARA this one I picked because it made me think about how life can be. I never had an older brother to teach me what not to do but I am the older brother in my situation. I don't want my younger siblings going through what I did.
@TRAEABN - The Truth is next. This specific one I choose cause the whole thing is just talking about what he going through with no chorus which can be seen as no breaks. Life has been back to back problems for me so it was relatable. Plus trae is one of favorites of all time.
Next is the first interlude. Bobby Raps X Sin Grinch - Oblivion. This i picked cause it was something I've always wanted to do but couldn't handle in the beginning but once my skills improved it was a piece of cake. It's something perfect for background music be it chilling-
Or working out or whatever. The vibe from it can fit perfectly for alot, after hearing the first few tracks it's a breather to just chill to get ready to continue the mix.
I came out swinging after that break with that interlude with Bakers Born2Lose.
I chose this cause I related to it on a deep level. I really feel like I was born to lose sometimes. I can try but it's not meant for me to make it but I'm gonna try anyway cause scew em. I'm out here making my own lane.
It also hit me cause it's about getting over regret and I honestly do regret stuff in life but at the same time I'm thankful cause it made me who I am today. If I ain't have any regrets y'all wouldn't have jakal right now.
After that is a track my homie @ghostoftheglobe did. I told him I'd put him on there and he gave me something that didn't disappoint. His skills have improved like crazy and I'm proud of him for it.
After his was a Nujabes produced track by Cise Starr called Highs2Lows. The beat was so laid back and nujabes just absolutely killed it. Cise came with bars and my favorite like was a nod to one of my goats Nas. It's really something to just chill and vibe out too.
"Sleep is a cousin of death said a wise man from queens bridge on beats he blessed" thats the nod I was talking about. If you know you know. Out of anybody I know @GODBODY_RFI know.
The track after was the 2nd interlude. It was the instrumental that I slowed and chopped up.
But after that was the actual song Bones - Dirt. This one I picked cause hell its bones. An underground goat. I knew the song before but most people know it cause asap rocky used it for 2nd album.
After that was another underground goat Metaphor The Great. He did a few tracks for the Boondocks ost. It was short and sweet but bars was god level with the punchlines.
After that was someone I didn't know about till it was suggested by the cover maker himself @DanLbiv. Nickelus F providing some heat with Trill Burr.
I had one with this one. It took me a few days to get it right but I had a good time regardless getting this right.
The next was suggestion from the homie. Night Tapes - Forever. He just wanted to see what it would sound like with my touch on it and ne both agreed it was fire so it made the cut.
After that was Rico Jeezus - Ivory Tower. There's a backstory for this one.
Aight, let's take it back to 2018. I've had my account since like 2010 but didn't start using it till then. That era for me I was one of those 300 following 29 followers accounts.
I was following those "rt for followers" accounts. I wasn't the chilled person I am now so forgive me. I was hella outa pocket back then.
One day following one of those accounts I became mutuals with an account that was one of those you follow and they dm you with some kind of link.
Not long after becoming mutuals I get a dm saying something along the lines of listen to this and tell me what you think. I ain't know no better I clicked the link and it lead me to some fire.
His account ain't around anymore but it was an up and coming rapper named Rico Jeezus with a track called Ivory Tower. And bruh my mind was blown.
It's not often I come across an up and comer that's a conscious rapper. So I was thrown off. I had to listen again.
Fast forward to when I started doing my Dj thing, I tried it but couldn't get it right so I dropped it.
A long time later when I got my skills up I tried it again and it worked. So now we are where we at now. If you ever see this thread rico just know you got a fan over here.
