reminder that SY having "an untreatable illness" is pure fanon & came from misunderstanding the translated phrasing "he sat around waiting for death" which contextually is likely "䜜死" or "ćä»„ćŸ…æŻ™" aka "resigned to one's fate" (because of laziness/lack of direction)
I mean, if that's what your headcanon is, that's totally fine, not taking away from it, but I hope that this doesn't remain as "fanon-canon" because it gives an entirely different meaning to SY's personality IMO
SY isn't "resigned to his fate" because he knows he's going to die - he was "resigned to his fate" because he had no meaning, no direction. THAT's why he spend so much time online being a P.O.S. on PIDW while paying for each chapter. HE HAD NOTHING BETTER TO DO.
It's canon he's a fuerdai, and I think that adds to why I'm pretty certain the original phrasing is an idiom about why he's so fcking aimless. He has no purpose cos he's got lots of money and (probably) no job, so he has nothing better to do than read stallion novels all day
IMO it also makes the story of him and Binghe more touching. He isn't "given a second chance at life" he's given the chance of having someone to care for him that HE ALSO CARES FOR AND HAS RESPONSIBILITY FOR, when prev life he was likely seen as some kind of burden.
In his previous life, he had NO RESPONSIBILITIES. He was one of four children. He wouldn't inherit whatever family business there probably was. He was just a typical trust fund kid who lived day to day, having no meaning in life
Yes, he had chill days when he transmigrated. But transmigrating was prob the best thing to happen to him because he finally got responsibility for something that he never learnt in modern day life: responsibility for raising Binghe
Also adding here that no T_T I don't have the raws T_T but it's a common idiom and the way it was translated fairly literally makes me fairly certain that the original phrasing was one of these two

HELP THIS IS EVEN MORE LITERAL THAN I THOUGHT IT'D BE???? yes google translates it to "eat and wait to die" but my understanding of it when my mum uses it about ppl is "mess around, doing nothing except eating and waiting for death"
Again I'm not. a translator. I'm just Chinese diaspora who hears these phrases from my mum often. sorry
