The official data published on Friday showed there are now 3,090 Covid patients being treated in English hospitals, seven fewer than the 3,097 figure on March 23 — the first day of the lockdown. The total has risen by 50 per cent in the last week. https://www.ft.com/content/d8381ff5-0b46-43a2-a469-b580f70ca30e
Jonathan Van Tam, deputy chief medical officer for England, warned at a private meeting of parliamentarians that the situation was “critical”.

How depressing is that? It’s just that the epicentre has shifted North for now- But @martinmckee of LSTHM says London’s close behind
At this rate the only way we’ll see a family Xmas is if we are all in hospital together.
In fact there were 3225 in England alone by Saturday and likely somewhere in the Region of 4K in the U.K.
Just so you can see the pre and post lockdown Covid bed occupation in England to compare

2588 the day before lockdown (22/3/20)
3097 the day of lockdown (23/3/20)
3492 the day after (24/3/20)
4262 - 2 days after
5045 - 3 days after

Then it really rocketed
A week later it had reached 11,533

C 17k at its peak

How can anyone forgive the Government if we see that again?
Deaths by date reported.
There is a marked lag now and there was then.

Deaths should not be at the same rate due to better protocols and treatments but by June it was still at c 12% of those hospitalised .

88 -28 day death yesterday
81 today

About half take 7 days to report
If wards and staff get overwhelmed then fatality rates tend to go up for obvious reasons.

But if 4K people are in hospital now (applying the June fatality rate of 12% rather than the April rate of 30%+) that would suggest that c480 would die.

I hope that is not true.
