I’M SO ANNOYED. @CPHutchinson performed an amazing socially distanced show at @TyneOperaHouse tonight. It was as safe as possible and the first time in 7 months that the 153 year old venue has been able to host an actual show. Carl cried as he closed his set and I cried too, for
Not knowing when on earth the next live show will be or what state our wonderful live arts sector will be left in in a few months. Yet, as we left the theatre we saw 4 separate people (young students) fall on the ground, mortal drunk, and crowds of people piling into the streets
after being kicked out of bars at 10pm due to the curfew. How is it that the government can decide to force our cultural venues into full or early closure. People losing livelihoods and being made redundant every day. The heart and souls of our cities being destroyed and let
down every day. As if closing our venues earlier or stopping shows will limit the risks involved, but shipping thousands of students into new cities and residential halls won’t cause a spread of this virus?
Pull your socks up @BorisJohnson and realise that you are ruining the UK’s cultural sector. @RishiSunak we need you to do your job! The arts and hospitality sector NEED help, not hypocrisy.
P.S, this is absolutely nothing against students, I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to be starting uni in 2020 and having the student experience taken away form you. I’m angry at how this entire situation is being handled by officials.
