Lowering the Gaze

The 'Allāma, al-Alūsī said in Rūh al-Ma'āni, commenting on the verse: (Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze.) [al-Nūr: 30]:

"Also, it is obligatory to lower the gaze from that which is unlawful to look at, whereas the unintentional
And sudden look is pardoned. Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī and others narrated from Burayda رضي الله عنه who said:

The Messenger of Allāhﷺ said:

"Do not follow up one glance with another, for the first one is for you and the second one is not."" (Rūh al-Ma'ānī: 18/129)
From Abū Mūsā, from the Prophet ﷺ who said:

"Every eye commits fornication (al-Bazzār and al-Ṭabarānī) From 'Alqama, from the Prophetﷺ who said: The fornication of the eyes is by looking." (al-Ṭabarānī)

From 'Abdullāh b. Mas'ūd who said: "The Messenger of Allāhﷺ said
(mentioning the words of his Lord):

"The unrestrained glance is a poisoned arrow among the arrows of the Devil. He who abstains from it out of fear of Me, in return, I shall give him faith, the sweetness of which he finds in his heart." (al-Ṭabarānī and al-Ḥākim).
From Abū Umāma from the Prophetﷺ who said:
"You will most certainly lower your gazes and guard your private parts, or Allāh will surely disfigure your faces." (al-Ṭabarānī)

From Abū Umāma also, from the Prophet ﷺwho said:
"There is no Muslim who looks at the beauty of a
woman and then lowers his gaze, save that Allāh will grant him the means to perform an act of worship, the sweetness of which he shall find in his heart."
