Laying the groundwork, "His “self-funded” presidential campaign was short on funds, and he was struggling to win over leery Republican donors. His [assorted businesses] were eating away at what cash he had left on hand, his tax records show."
Okay, THIS is interesting, "early 2016, Deutsche Bank, the LAST BIG LENDER STILL DOING BUSINESS WITH HIM, unexpectedly turned down his request for a loan. ...shore up his golf resort in Scotland. ...feared the money would instead be diverted to his campaign."
So before he was even elected, Deutsche Bank was refusing to give him money for fear it would be used in his campaign. Meaning not only did they think he was lying, they clearly did not want him in the Oval Office.

They're known to be corrupt. If rump in the WH -
- would be an advantage to them, they'd have ponied up the money anyway. But they didn't. So the people who knew him best, didn't vote for him. So to speak.
"That January, Mr. Trump sold a lot of stock — $11.1 million worth. He sold another $11.8 million worth in February, and $7.5 million in March. In April, he sold $8.1 million more."

This sort of thing is sometimes called a fire sale. As in everything's on fire.
For the 1% to sell their stocks... it's like a dairy farmer selling their herd. They make a bit of money right now, but lose any chance at further income. Extremely short-sighted.

Which sounds like our guy to a T. Ha.
"...while the 100s of millions of dollars earned from “The Apprentice” and his attendant celebrity rescued his business career, those riches, together with the marketing power of the Trump brand, were ebbing when he announced his 2016 presidential run."
Keep the Trump "Brand" in mind, because not only is it central to his ego, it's central to his income. That's why he's kept trying to slap his name on mediocre crap (wine, steaks, etc) and expecting it to sell.

And it doesn't, but he doesn't learn.
And FYI, the last serial bankrupter we had in office was George W Bush.
