It’s #WorldMentalHealthDay ~ this might be a car channel, but with a predominantly male audience, it’s probably one of the most relevant things I can talk to you about and use my channel for away from cars
More men committed suicide in August this year than in 2019, which is absolutely horrific and something we could definitely be doing more to tackle
I can tell you from experience it is very hard to find the courage to access help and to talk to people. The NHS are underfunded and exhausted and counselling isn’t cheap and it can be hard to access
However, there is so much support around you that you can tap into if you aren’t ok. Your friends, your family and the Samaritans will all listen and be there for you and you can self refer to your local crisis team.
It can absolutely feel at times there is only one way out from a spiral (I too have felt that) but I promise you, whoever you are, you are loved, valued and would be hugely missed if you didn’t find your way back up.
There is no shame to medication, counselling or being honest and saying you’re drowning. It’s actually the bravest move you can make and the first step to feeling better
You wouldn’t ignore a broken leg, so if your head is a bit broken, tell somebody today. There’s nothing ‘girly’ about saying you need help or ‘feeble’. It truly is a proper power move to stick your head up out the ground and say you need a hand getting better.
It’s also worth mentioning recovery isn’t linear and it won’t happen overnight. Sadly.
Anyway, that’s it’s from me. Mental health is important, you are loved even if you don’t know it and getting help can change your world.

PS. if you don’t know what to say to somebody struggling, help them find the services they need and support you them to access them.
