Brodie is not a Jake Gardiner, and definitely not a Tyson Barrie.
TJ Brodie blocked 87 shots last year. Tied with Doughty and more than Dillon, Niskanen, Ekblad, Petry, Gudas (noted “gritty” d men). He did this despite being paired with Giordano (7th in blocked shots)
Tyson Barrie averaged 2:40 of PP ice time. Brodie averaged 37 seconds per game. On the flip side, Brodie averaged 1:39 per game penalty killing (more than Carlson, Dumba, Montour). Tyson Barrie did not kill penalties.
Brodie was top 30 in the NHL for takeaways by a d man. You know, taking the puck away, what a defender is supposed to do? Barrie isn’t even in the top 100.
He can defend.
He’s nothing like Tyson Barrie (via @Billius27)
If you REALLY want to compare him to someone on the Leafs, compare him to Muzzin. Hell of a defender, very similar analytics. Not as physical unfortunately but a better skater and puck mover.
