👀 I’m 99.9% certain that the patch on Trump’s hand is covering the site of a recent IV.

He didn’t have that at Walter Reed, or in recent videos.

Based on what we’ve been told, he *shouldn’t* need an IV 🤔 /1

This suggests that a new IV was placed sometime in the last 24-48 hours (and discontinued for this event).

PS - I’m certain about this being an IV because…well..that’s where we place them. Other (far less likely) possibilities include: skin tag removal or a skin biopsy.

It’s hard to tell whether it's bruising, a shadow, or something else. The other thing that stands out are the sharp skin folds — suggesting swelling or pooling of fluid.

I’d be curious to know if @tombrennerphoto or @JonLemire have access to other images. https://twitter.com/bmresistence/status/1315018228523884544
He wouldn’t *need it* for dexamethasone b/c that’s available in oral doses (although I do think he’s still on it).

This is something else. https://twitter.com/theiepguy/status/1315017551756230656
Unlikely, to be Remdesivir b/c the most recent trials that apply to Trump’s case rely on 5-day courses: https://www.acc.org/latest-in-cardiology/clinical-trials/2020/08/24/09/44/remdesivir-for-moderate-covid-19

Also, trials comparing 5-day vs. 10-day courses of Remdesivir suggest that 5-day courses are preferable: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2769871 https://twitter.com/bely013/status/1315021387132788737
Nobody has asked about this: but I did consider the possibility that we may be looking at the site where they drew blood for labs.

That’s *possible* but it would be extremely odd given that:
A) hand IV’s hurt
B) it’s *WAAAAAY* less conspicuous to draw labs higher in the arm
In this photo from 3 days ago: we see his hand has NOT been used for IVs or blood draws.

(the shadows cast by the veins on his hand are NOT to be confused with bruising) https://twitter.com/pool_mama/status/1315027381242023937?s=21
I explained why it would be unlikely for this to be Remdesivir here: https://twitter.com/datadrivenmd/status/1315024074431553537?s=21

We have no evidence that Trump is on antipsychotics.

The symptoms of steroid withdrawal are different, as I discuss in this thread:
https://twitter.com/datadrivenmd/status/1314764067253362688?s=21 https://twitter.com/commonsense5900/status/1315022666797993985?s=21
This gives a clear view of the hand, and additional tell-tale signs of an IV (not a lab draw):
🔸location on the hand
🔸need for multiple bandages to cover the full length of (likely) bruising

Both are due to the need to thread the IV catheter (1 inch long)

About the location on the hand, and why that matters:
Unlike a simple blood draw, placing a hand IV requires that the tip of the catheter be unobstructed to a *flexible plastic tube*

Placing the IV as marked below generally yields a secure, unobstructed IV.
Probably should have mentioned this earlier— I’ve placed *thousands* of hand IVs in my career.
We don’t know what he’s being treated with, but I will say that if they went through the trouble of starting an IV *just* to give him fluids, that’s a major reason for 🚨 — there’s no need for that *if* he’s holding down fluids on his own. https://twitter.com/lis_lisrn/status/1315050118660403203?s=21
Final thought: Why?

All of this guesswork would be moot if Trump simply allowed Conley to be transparent. This thread would have been more along the lines of:

“They said he was taking X”

or

“This is consistent with monitoring for Y”

They’re making the situation worse.
