I found this gem of a book while organizing the office earlier.
Now 62 years old - written by André Voisin - its certainly in my top 3 of all books!
A great Christmas present option for anyone interested in human nutrition or farming.

Voisin, the founding father of "rotational grazing" was a French biochemist, but a farmer at heart. Best known for pioneering the 21-28 day grazing rotation, he understood that healthy soil was more than just a function of chemical balances

Born in France in 1903, André Voisin made his living as a scientist in Paris, but his greatest insights regarding soils and grass came to him in the hours he spent watching his own cows graze the pastures on his farm in Normandy.

He understood that if soil and grasses are managed with care, they will sustain healthy animals and the human consuming meat and dairy products from these animals will also enjoy good health.

He gives various examples of soils that are chemically fertile but not healthy. Organic matter serves as the catalyst for mineral absorption. Minerals must first be consumed by earthworms and microscopic life and excreted before they can be easily taken up by grazing animals.

While his theories on the causes of cancer are viewed as simplistic by modern medics, his philosophy of healthy soil being vital to all life has never been as relevant as today.
