Is this a blanket rule or is it just for the guys who got arrested last week? Can I get an "alleged" with that if it's the latter?
If it is a blanket term for all militias, is it likely to be accurate in every case? Will it be used for any armed group of any political stripe?
There are other choices. "Paramilitaries" is a good one that refers to an existing (underused) legal framework.
The people thirsting for a label like this to be applied to their perceived opponents should be cognizant of the fact that it is unlikely to stop there, and will soon be applied to all kinds of extra parliamentary political activity
Everything that allegedly happened in Michigan is clearly prosecutable under existing statutes. Why not focus on alleged criminal acts rather than compounding a confusing mess of contentious labels?
"alleged members of a right wing paramilitary group who plotted to kidnap Michigan's governor" at the top, followed by "the alleged plotters" or "the alleged paramilitaries" seems more informative to me
