/x People* often** ask me the je ne sais quoi of my all-round savoir faire and, honestly, I think the core of it is a carefully thought-through self-checkout technique.
/x *Nobody **ever
/x I mean, sure, you're doing your basics. You're scanning heavier items before lighter items.
But did you ever think about when you're scanning items that need staff approval?
/x Sure, they say "somebody is coming to help you". But do you think that person's coming fast? Scan your bottle of beer or packet of paracetamol before the rest and alongside your groceries you're buying life's most precious commodity - time.
/x Also, are you careful about when you scan in your loyalty card? It's all too easy to leave it too late. You miss out or have to undertake a tiresome trip to customer services to claim them.
/x I see it so often* - a man tells me he's lost his mojo; you ask him a few questions and at bottom it turns out he's really just leaving a lot of Nectar points on the table.
/x I hope this was helpful.
