Spiritual Path for Women

Ancestor Veneration, Being Choosy, Righteousness, and Shortcuts

Getting what you wanted and losing what you had is about to make a lot of sense.
From the very first scene, we see Tiana take off her work clothes, put her tips in a can, say "Every penny counts" and all of the tips she's collected over an unknown period of time. Right after this, we see Tiana's picture of her father, who would be considered an Ancestor.
In African-American Tradition Witchcraft culture (which is what I feel more comfortable speaking on and labeling it, seeing as there are MANY different types of religions and practices within the Black community as a whole) Ancestor Veneration is important.
Tiana doesn't formally venerate her father with offerings and such, but she does honor him. Through her honoring him, she receives the yang blessings of her father. In a sense, she is yang. She even honors his wish of the restaurant that he called "Tiana's".
Right after her opening scene, the performers try to dance with her, and she rebuffs them.
There's a scene where some of the women that Tiana is serving ask her to come to a party with them, which she rejects because she wants to work to achieve one of her goals, which is a "yang" thing to do. She consistently rejects the offers of the "yin" society around her,
unlike her counterpart in the film, Prince Naveen.Prince Naveen is Jyestha sun with either Shatabisha or PBP moon.
Throughout the film before his physical transformation, he consistently makes yin choices, like basking in female attention.
Also in the second scene, he tries to provoke Tiana's attention, which is Yin. By nature, yin forces try to evoke and pull on Yang attention and energy.
The Shadowman and Taking Shortcuts

The Shadowman could represent one of two things. Tiana's antithesis, seeing as the Shadowman doesn't physically "work" or do anything by himself or an unchecked version of Naveen that works with mystical forces that work with him CONDITIONALLY.
No matter what the shadowman does with malice, what other people do through purity and good receive more benefit, which again can be seen through the introduction of the film.
Much like Belle in Beauty and the Best, she is ridiculed by the masses around her for not partaking in their activities. Instead of doing that, they partake in activities that further their own individual goals, which again, highlights their yang energy.
Unlike Belle however, Tiana has another counterpart in the film, Charlotte or Lotte, who has either Ashlesha or Magha sun and Purva Phalguni moon. Unlike Tiana, she directly receives the yang benefit of her father, whereas Tiana receives it spiritually.
Tiana receives strong values, principles, and a strong work ethic. Tiana's yang gives her the strength to pursue her own goals. Lotte's yang (her father) makes it overall easier for her to be pursued by other sources of yang energy.
In a sense, Lotte shows us how Tiana's path would be much easier if she had "received" yang from a figure similar to Lotte's father, but on the spiritual path, it might not be considered so. Lotte's 2nd house nature of receiving through the family, is opposite Tiana's the 8th.
The 8th house path of spirituality is all about making your own way, growing, transforming, and following your desires. We can even see where Tiana could've "messed up" in the film that prompts her physical transformation that catapults her forward, but first Naveen.
Again, Naveen represents the 2nd house, of receiving from the family. It is only he has been cut off, that he is ready to join Tiana on the 8th house path.
Naveen meets with the Shadowman (who again, represents shortcuts that in the end don't benefit you) and after wanting to get his money back, gets turned into a frog through magic, both representing getting thrust into the 8th house of transformation and magic.
Naveen meets Tiana as a frog, and after promising he'd get her that restaurant, she kisses him and gets pulled into the 8th house with him. In a sense, Naveen initiates her into the 8th house subjects and takes her on a "journey."
Through losing what the had to get what they wanted, they go on an 8th house journey.

I just wanna point out the counterpart imagery of Lotte & Tiana and Naveen & the Shadow man so it sticks in your brain.
BACK TO THE JOURNEY

Again and again and again, Tiana and Naveen are put in danger and experience the corrosive energy of the 8th house. In the beginning, the resist its energy and remain the same person they were before they transformed.
Throughout the journey, Naveen learns the virtue of being righteous, and Tiana learns about the joys of love. Both lessons learned from one another. Naveen even says "If I can mince, you can dance." Of course Naveen sucks at mincing, but Tiana can dance perfectly fine.
Its similar to the notion of balance. Naveen coming from the 2nd house and suddenly being thrust into the 8th, and Tiana naturally living in an 8th house-ish life, suddenly being thrusted into the 8th, and then learning of the 2nd.
However, throughout this journey, Naveen isn't yang enough. It isn't until the end of the film, where he decides that he'd rather marry Lottie to GIVE Tiana her restaurant that he proves himself worthy. After it is too late, Tiana sees what Naveen tried to do for her.
She sees that Naveen makes an action out of goodness and true love, and decides that he is now yang enough for her, and marries him. AND FINALLY THE 8TH HOUSE JOURNEY IS OVER.
Before this however, Tiana does have to face Naveen's representation of his shortcomings, the Shadowman. Much like Jafar in Aladdin, the shadowman shows us the manipulation of the 8th house and why greed and shortcuts don't work out in our favour.
Through Tiana herself being pure and righteous, she rejects the offer given to her by the Shadowman, and therefore defeats him, leaving him to face his own 8th house leading to his immediate death/entrapment.
She metaphorically kills the Shadowman and releases Naveen of his shortcomings, which leads to Naveen ultimately proving himself. Again, through Naveen proving himself, the 8th house journey is over, and they receive both of their wishes and even more.
