Thread: Let me premise this by saying I love DJ and would love for DJ to stay and re-sign him. However, I just wanted to take a look at why letting him walk is a possibility.

1) the Yankees lost A LOT of money due to COVID and they will have to be paying lots of guys soon.
2) While it looks like DJ progresses heavily, it’s considerable how much his batted-ball luck went up as his contact quality went down. His X stats are considerably down from last year, and very much down from his baseline analytical non-x stats. Showed in his BABIP too.
3) Signing him to a big contract COULD come back to bite with these possible signs of regression and considering the Yankees overall situation.

4) Letting DJ go would let a leadoff guy like Hicks cherish in that role, and move Gleyber back to 2B. You can explore Simmons at SS.
I love DJ, & would be happy for him to re-sign, just wanted to throw out some ideas as to why the Yankees could look to let him walk.
