Hello new followers!! A bunch of you have joined me in the last couple weeks, so I figured an introduction thread might be in order. I’m Megan, and I’m an interdisciplinary narrative artist.
I work mostly in music and writing, but I also overlap with theater and dance and whatever other skill sets my collaborators bring to the table. A lot of my work engages with power dynamics and violent misogyny, in music and elsewhere.
Because I write about music and power and access a lot, musicologists are some of my favorite people, but because I’m a composer-performer (trumpet, but also other things), I’m used to working with almost everyone.
I did my BM in Theory and Composition at @ASU and my Performer-Composer MFA at @CalArts. I had good and bad experiences at both schools, each of which I talk about pretty freely (though some of the bad remains under wraps).
Sexual assault is my favorite thing to talk about. Queer theory comes in close second. I am aggressively a Words Person, so I frustrate myself when I can’t fully articulate a thought.
Speaking of queer things: I am a nonbinary woman, and my genderfluidity means some days I feel female or female-ish and some days I’m Not Participating At This Time. Shoutout to all my other agender folks! https://megandejarnett.com/2020/05/16/on-identity-specifically-mine/
