Do you have a favourite tree that you go back to again and again?

Whatâs it like? What draws you there? One thatâs special to me is this oak & Iâd like to share with you why I find spending time underneath its branches so worthwhile

(2/8) Many of my acorn experiences of late were from underneath this tree. I first found it more than 10 years ago; every time I go to the New Forest I make sure I visit, even if itâs only to pass by, place my hand against its rough bark and say hi

(3/8) Itâs so peaceful there, away from the roads & towns & people & busyness of everyday life. I like to sit gazing up through the leafy branches, listening to the robins, the snuffle of ponies, the patter of acorns. Itâs also a perfect place to watch the sunset!

(4/8) During winter its bare twigs are dotted with rock-hard orange buds. In the spring, miniature oak leaves uncrinkle themselves on those first warm days. The summer sees the tree crawling with wonderful life & in the autumn the acorns & colours are spectacular

(5/8) The best thing though is just having the opportunity to sit still for a while, take deep breaths of fresh air & tune into the wild world around me. No work, no emails, no rushing - even the ever increasing eco-woes seem smaller. It grounds me, reminds me what really matters
(6/8) Iâd love to hear about your favourite trees & why theyâre important to you
If you donât have one, try finding a local oak, maple or beech & sit yourself down under it (at this time of year Iâd recommend taking something to sit on, several layers & a flask of tea!
)

(7/8) It doesnât have to be in the middle of nowhere: perhaps a familiar spot in your local park. If you go again and again you start getting to know the wildlife around you and how it changes through the seasons. Watching autumn unfold in front of your eyes is so special!
