If you assume progressives working on the inside can or will do nothing, that makes it doubly important to apply public pressure in a unified bloc. First we must increase our power by increasing our numbers. Then we apply force.

Our power does not comes from voting or donating to politicians. We could never exceed the power of the rich individually. Increasing our donations to out-influence the rich but demanding nothing in return failed. Our power is in numbers because a mob is terrifying.

You can extrapolate backwards to see this. The elite spend a lot of money to convince the rest of us to divide ourselves into different groups and compete for the crumbs of resources they dole out to us. Therefore dividing us is very important to them. Why? Power in numbers.

We have far more in common with the people we hate and despise than with the elite. We all are at the mercy of the elite and suffer from their callousness. We are all ground down in the mill of their greed.

I hate racists and I hope they choke to death on their venison jerky. But if (and that’s a big “if”) I need them to stop the elite from killing the planet with fossil fuels I will put aside my hate long enough to pass the law. I can hate again afterwards.

Although by that time it will be less “pass a law” and more “win the revolution.”
