Alright so here it is, a thread of some extremely common (but often overlooked, haven't added crows and pigeons lol) birds that you might see around your own homes.
All of these photos were taken from my house in Pune during the lockdown period. https://twitter.com/nokartikno/status/1314772676888723456
Let's begin w two of the most common species that I'm sure you all will see if you guys pay attention to your surroundings😎
Red Whiskered Bulbul (left)
Red Vented Bulbul (right)
The next one is again, a really common bird but really hard to shoot because it's extremely restless. It's called the Purple Rumped Sunbird.
Notice how the male (left) is more vibrant and colourful than the female (right)? Yeah that's the case in almost every wild animal.
The Grey Indian Hornbill is also one of those birds that I've been seeing a lot lately. Some obvious differences between the male (L) and female (R), like the male has a red iris while the female has a brown patch around her eye.
The beak and the "horn" (called the casque) is +
larger in the males.
The Asian Paradise Flycatcher is a bird that is rarely seen in urban areas but I'm extremely lucky to be able to observe one who has been visiting my society for the last 3 years. In fact, this guy is the reason I'm into birding in the first place+
Now I didn't click the female from my house but I added her photo to for a comparison between the both.
Some points of differences: the male has a really long tail (almost the length of his body) and also has a blue ring around his eye.
Male- Left
Female- Right
The next one is called the Barn Owl. It's a widespread specie of owl but not commonly seen in urban areas. There's a pair living near my society though lmao.
Clicked these photos at 2AM with a torch in my mouth lol
And this one here is the most common raptor (bird of prey) that I'm sure you will see at any given time of day just soaring in the sky. It's called the Black Kite.
The White Throated Kingfisher is the most common species of kingfisher that you'll see around. Just try going to the vermicomposting bin in your society and you might find this guy lurking around trying to search for spiders and insects.
The Greater Coucal is considered to bring good luck to a person who sees it, but the funny part is I've seen this guy a million times fir bhi mera luck good nahi aaya hai 😔👎
This guy here is called the Coppersmith Barbet, and it gets its name from the fact that the call of this bird sounds like a hammer hitting a copper rod.
And the last one of here is a bird that never fails to wake me up, it's the Asian Koel.
Also I think it's one of the only exceptions where I think the female (L) is better looking than the male(R).
The male here is actually screaming on top of his voice in the photo lol
Honestly, this is just the tip of the iceberg; I might've easily seen around 20-30 species of birds right from my window (the point here being that there's so many creatures around us that we fail to notice on a daily basis)
Yaar if you've seen these photos on IG before I'm sorry but I haven't gone out to click new photos in months and have zero content to put out so I've to recycle old photos😭😭😭🙏
If you made it here thanks for sticking w me really appreciate it ❤️
