Today is #worldmentalhealthday . Here are a few things I have learnt over the years. 👇 (a thread)
Absence of mental illness is NOT the presence of #mentalhealth . The idea is to have a "flourishing" life where one has a life free of mental illness and presence of happiness and other positive factors.
#mentalhealth is an ongoing BUT preventable burden ONLY IF we realize that it it as IMPORTANT as physical health. It's in our (and only our) hands to try and destigmatize it.
There is no need to judge someone who decides to go to therapy/counselling or wants to visit a psychiatrist. Try to be there for them and ask them of they are doing fine. Stop all the judgment.
#suicide is neither brave nor weak. stop categorizing it. learn more about #mentalhealth and signs of suicide and its prevention strategies rather than labelling.
