Good day peeps!
I have this piece of advice to young Nigerians who intend to go into poultry business. Start from where you are and do not over think things. What do I mean? It is good to have huge plans but breaking those huge plans down in bits will make things clearer. Here
we go! I have heard passionate young Nigerians talk about owning the biggest farms in Nigeria and they believe someone somewhere will give them huge funds to start. It doesn't work that way. I was in contact with a passionate young guy this week and it gives me joy how he thinks.
He went for the much needed training after his uncle told him that he will set up it. He intends going into broilers production and he is so positive about it. His uncle bought him about an acre of land in Ogun state. I was on the land this week to see what he could do on it. He
received the quotation for the construction of pen and he called me to inform me that his uncle might not be able to afford the cost. We concluded that this shouldn't be a deterrent to his dreams. We concluded yesterday that we will go the route of renting a pen to start the
project. I have called some of the farmers I know in Ogun state to rent a pen to kick start the project. I believe we will get one to start with. This thread is about his commitment to begin this journey no matter how small. I have seen farmers start inside their rooms raising
4weeks old broilers to sell. Some raise cockerels. Others sell eggs first before getting hold of what they want. Some help others sell DOC and they get paid for it. Poultry business is a good one and the best you can do for yourself is look at how you can start. I love to say to
people that you will get noticed when you start something. Nobody notices you if you do not do anything. Get involved in the value chain and get paid no matter how small it is. I am not a motivational speaker, I am a farmer. I love you all.
