Only 1% of the population donates blood through the @theSANBS

What is preventing South Africans from donating blood?
To be eligible to donate blood, you need to:

• be free of any cold and flu symptoms
• be between the ages of 16 and 75
• weigh more than 50kg
• be in good health

If you are anaemic, you are not eligible to donate blood @theSANBS #YoungBlood
Donating blood is an altruistic act

You don't get remuneration for donating blood

Blood has to be screened and prepared for transfusion and uses such as platelet transfusion. That requires laboratory work and technical expertise. @theSANBS works hard to make sure blood is safe
Blood Group O is considered the universal blood group because anyone - regardless of blood type - can receive Type O blood. You guys are special and we need your blood urgently!

I'm Blood Group B+ and I'll be donating. Find out where your nearest @theSANBS centre is and donate
Tomorrow I'll be answering all your questions and concerns about donating blood
