"I don't know how to start organising my workplace, conditions are okay and the boss is pretty cool."

It is actually MUCH easier to organise your workplace when things are calm, than when everyone is stressed out. You wouldn't 'prepare' for a hurricane AFTER it hits! /1
READ this story from an IWW member:

" The standard organizing principles apply especially to cold shops. I had one of my best organizing experiences in a shop where we all felt like it was one of the best jobs we’d ever had & didn’t want to rock the boat or complain. /2
It started the same way as any workplace. Gathering contacts, mapping, charting, & identifying leaders. In building the relationships, you’re bound to find some grievances & we certainly found them. No one wants to talk about the bad things when they think they have it good /3
(or could have it much worse!) But if you’re tight with people, they’ll share what they think isn’t right.

Talking to co-workers outside of work, we found we all loved the job & had similar ideas on how things could be slightly better. /4
But we didn’t want to come off as ‘complaining’. We agreed that it was best to propose minor changes that would help us & the company overall. It was small enough. But it was quickly accepted & appreciated by management. /5
Not exactly the battle of Blair Mountain, but it was something.

Then, when a policy came out from a new manager that we felt was completely disrespectful & ridiculous, we already had the ground game to organize against it. /6
Within a day we had a Google-doc up with all the problems, what needs to be changed & why. We voted one of our members with leadership qualities to present it on our behalf. It was accepted, & the policy tossed out entirely. It was then rewritten with our consultation. /7
This was all done with a small group of people in a small workplace, who really like their job. But more importantly, they were willing to work together to keep it good, & we got an organizing committee out of it. "
