People who breathlessly shout, “just vote” or “wear a tucking mask” are doing the same thing. It’s not that you shouldn’t do these things. But, the emphasis on them relieves people in power from the responsibility of doing their jobs...

If there were a cohesive testing strategy, that took away the mystery of one’s covid status combined with monetary relief allowing them to stay home, unworried about paying for one’s needs...
Instead this pandemic is portrayed as a crisis of the individual will instead of what it really is, a crisis of the social good, a crisis of capitalism.
We are most certainly not in this together. And the portrayal of non-mask wearers as selfish—while maybe true on a micro level—is almost foolish when the collective social good has all but been eroded into non-existence.
