Some polish still needed, but my first-person weevil program is working pretty nicely already.

And just look how excited the wee weevil is!

(hey @BlendoGames!)
This is for a mission I started making for Quadrilateral Cowboy a couple years ago, and am maybe picking up again now.

Normally you type commands to control the Weevil: "turn 45; go 50; jump". But here I'm making it use WASD and other keys for continuous interaction.
Picked this up again today, and implemented another feature. The weevil can now scan specific objects (so they can later be cloned):
Rough sketch of the cloning machine. Will need to be properly modeled and animated, and sound effects and so on added; but it's a good start.
Threw the rough version into Blender. Will it blend? Signs point to Yes.
Groping my way in the dark through Blender's UV unwrapping, rigging, and animating stuff. Slowly getting there…
Woke up after only three hours sleep. Way too tired to work on fixing up the Blender md5mesh/anim exporter, and too tired even to do level design.
Instead browsed through reference pictures and made a very rough concept sketch for the setting for one scene: shoddy low cost flats slung on huge electrical pylons which also provide zeppelin mooring.
Now that I have a working exporter from Blender, I can start getting the model into the game!

A very work-in-progress gif: the blockout side by side with the exported mesh (as it is so far) from Blender.
Switched over to a different Blender export addon that has a better workflow (especially for multiple animations). Scripted the device to create its monitor and buttons and a temporary spawned object for testing.

Slowly nearing completion of this object.
Took a break from the cloning machine this evening to do a rough blockout of the first level, breaking in to an office building to steal secrets. It's still #blocktober after all!
Big thanks to CharbertGillbert who dropped into the stream and asked many questions about mapping and the doom 3 engine, and prompted a bunch of ideas that made the map better than I'd originally planned!
(And thanks as ever to @tinyblob for dropping by to hang out on the stream and keep me company. Much appreciated!)
At long last, the machine can actually clone the objects you want! Either ones you scan (see the scanning video upthread) or from a file on disk.
If you’ve been liking this thread, you really should buy Quadrilateral Cowboy, so you’ll be able to play this mod of mine when it’s finished.

Also it’s 50% off right now, so the perfect time to pick it up: https://twitter.com/BlendoGames/status/1319340132202246144
