Every movement needs 3 kinds of People:

1. Protesters
2. Activists
3. Leaders

1 - Needs to be Passionate, Emotional & Angry enough to express it.

2 - Is there to organise 1 so their protest can be heard and effective

3 - Is there to articulate the demands & craft the strategy

We've examples the world over of how organic protest that started with hashtags evolved into movements; #MeToo #BlackLivesMatter #BringBackOurGirls are all examples of protest against social injustice that evolved into a movement. The effectiveness of each movement however is..

....dependent not just on the scale of the protest but the quality of its organisation, its leader, its strategy and the articulation of demands by leaders of the movement. A protest rich in passion but poor in strategy will eventually dissipate when passion inevitably calms.

We have an opportunity with the #EndSARS campaign to use the passion and turn it into a movement that promotes respect for basic human rights; reform of the entire Police Force; retraining and reorientation of officers and not forgetting their welfare in the entire conversation.

Like in every movement, there will be a power grab. #EndSARS will not be immune to this. The hope is that it would not be hijacked by politicians or those with political agendas. If it is, then it will die with an election. For it to be immortal, it must be organic & non-partisan

The strategy now might be to protest, but the objective must be reforms. The demands needs to be documented in 1,2,3,4,5...bullet points. Those bullet points needs to be well articulated passionately to the public but also dispassionately to govt when sitting across the table.

For instance, would the reform need the enactment or amendment of laws? If yes, then a strategy for the engagement of the legislators must be crafted.
