Because ---

My patients with #COVID19 are still afraid. They may be "strong", but they are scared. With good reason.

And so are we, the healthcare providers: bc PPE & testing are still in short supply, yet the 2nd wave is here.

And the rhetoric makes us feel like failures
So this piece!!!

It reinforces that REAL strength is so very far apart from the toxic salespitch of Trump & co.

He suggests that the strongest amongst us are not those who boast the most. It is those of us who can hold space for uncertainty, and then move forward.
And only when we know where we have come from, can we make conscious choices about where we would prefer to go.
Ed's words create space to celebrate, to mourn, and to commit to a different vision -- in which we don't describe patients (or healthcare providers!) as conquerors, warriors, or heroes.
Reflecting on the 209,000 (& counting) American lives lost, he opines:

"Their fates were not a matter of weakness, but their numbers should make the self-described most powerful nation in the world consider how strong it truly is." 🙏🏻

As I reflect on yet another day in the ER during which I wish the world were a little different - this piece, makes me feel seen. I hope you feel the same, after reading it.
[[And a very cool coda: All of his interviewees are women!!! #HeForShe ]]
