i love ateez and their music so much so here is a very long thread abt the relationship and similarites between treasure and precious; 2 of my all time favorite ateez songs
starting off, i want to talk abt lyrics, both in general and specific parts.
Treasure is a song abt ateez' treasure calling to them and them searching for it.
Precious is abt ateez having found the treasure but still craving more of it.
so Precious is kinda like Treasure's sequel
more specifically, the intro of Treasure and the outro of Precious have the same flow/rhyme

(i got lyrics/trans from Genius so excuse any inaccuracies, someone who is fluent in Korean pls help lmao)
also, in both songs, right before the chorus, Wooyoung sings "그 누구도 찾지 못한 곳으로" or "to a place no one has found" which i think is kinda cute ngl
moving on from lyrics, it's obvious when you listen to both of them that Precious' instrumental was inspired by Treasure's. both songs are in the key of F# Minor, and have a tempo of 134 BPM. which means a big difference in each song comea from their chord progressions.
the verses of Precious use this chord progression: D Bm F#m
which sounds like this:
(notice 2 out of the 3 chords are minor (m), which gives it a very dark and sad sound.)
the verses of Treasure use a similar chord progression, but slightly different: D Bm D#m A (though the A is shorter than the other chords)
which sounds like this:
(notice the addition of another major chord, which makes it sound SLIGHTLY happier than Precious)
when we get to the CHORUSES of each song, it's a completely different story.
Precious only uses one chord, F#m
however, Treasure's chorus is much different: D A E F#m
which sounds like this:
(3 are major chords, making it sound much happier)
this slight difference in chords changes the tone of each song to reflect the lyrics. the major (happy) chords of Treasure express the excitement of searching for the treasure, while the minor (sad) chords of Precious express the apprehension/disbelief of having (+)
found the treasure, and also the desire/ambition of still wanting more of it.
another thing i want to point out is the differences in the rhythms in the instrumentals in each. Treasure's chords are very choppy and loose, almost unconfident in a way. Precious' chords are long and held out, sounding a lot more cemented and confident.
now this would not be a thread abt ateez if i didnt include their performances in here somewhere, and funny enough, there are actually links between their choreographies as well!!
if u were unaware, when ateez perform these songs live, they are performed one after the other, (+)
Treasure first, then Precious, with a small interlude between them linking the two songs together. (both for those who haven't seen it and a refresher for those who have) the interlude looks like this:
(cred to Lucid J on YT)
in that clip, they slightly change the end of the Treasure choreo and spread out the members more to lead into Precious. the interlude choreo is super interesting bc we see hongjoong mime opening a box and collapsing with the rest of the members.
my theory is the box represents the treasure they were looking for, which bridges the gap between Treasure (looking for the treasure) and Precious (wanting more of the treasure they found) which i think is rly cool :))) i love ateez performances so much wtf okay sorry moving on
my last and FINAL POINT ("thank god!" i hear you scream) of this thread is the choreo during the intro of Treasure and the outro of Precious. i know a lot of people noticed this and pointed it out but i just think it is very neat so i'm going to talk about it again.
much like the lyrics of the Treasure intro and Precious outro, the choreography uses the same moves. in Treasure, Hongjoong's eyes are covered by the members and he draws the word ATEEZ with his hand in the air. in Precious he draws the word and THEN his eyes are covered.
okay that is all. thank u for reading this whole thread and letting me yell about these songs. BUT WAIT!! there is one question that remains unanswered. we know that Treasure is about finding treasure and Precious is about wanting more treasure, but what IS the treasure?
obviously it could be many different things, but my theory is that the treasure that they're looking for is fame/success. treasure was their debut, so they were just starting out and dipping their feet in the waters of the industry. they were looking for success and fame.
precious was a year and a half into their careers, they had exploded overseas and were gaining a lot of traction in the industry, they were and still are growing exponentially, so its fair to say they've now had their taste of fame and success. they're apprehensive about it (+)
they're unsure if its real, but they're ambitious and they want more of it. (as they should. ateez world domination.)

anyways that's my theory and my very long convoluted analysis of the two songs hehe :)) i hope u all have a good day/night/week/month/year <3
