Ex-muslim issues & TikTok (1/7)

TikTok is the first platform I used to voice my experiences about leaving Islam. There were less than 100 views under the #ExMuslim tag on TikTok back then.

Now, a mere few months later, there are nearly 9 million views.

I know there are people who think TikTok is stupid and childish. Some may think the same of my TikTok videos.

The fact of the matter is, TikTok is currently one of the most favoured apps amongst the younger generation.

This presents an important opportunity.
3/7

I am in favour of TikTok as a platform to support, educate & challenge today's youth (and others) on issues of blasphemy & ex-muslim experiences.

TikTok presents a unique opportunity to empower young people to think outside their comfort zone.

The TikTok algorithm & FYP format uses AI to tailor content to personal preference. You don't choose what you see.

This means Muslim youth can be regularly exposed to content such as this video, which amassed 40k views in 2 days, when tags like #ExMuslim are used.

Exposure to ex-muslim content, particularly when depicted in the format of familiar TikTok challenges, trends & parodies, holds immense potential in planting seeds of doubt, raising awareness & encouraging critical thinking amongst our youth.

I believe this is crucial.

I recognise not all my content may be seen as productive. Perhaps some consider me to be unhelpful.

As such, I've removed all my TikToks.

I want to make a genuine difference to the ex-muslim movement, not contribute something deemed irrelevant.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this matter from those who have seen my content. Please reply to this thread or DM me.
