That last point though đź‘€
Guns are expensive. Ammo is expensive. All that fancy shit country playboys like to use on their expensive gun? Expensive. Going to a range to practice can also expensive.
If you are legitimately “white trash,” you can’t even afford the bullets https://twitter.com/sarahtaber_bww/status/1314578638193426434
This thread and the other retweets and comments remind me of something I said when I was in my early twenties. I openly speculated with a boyfriend at the time that I felt like America doesn’t want you to travel.
At the time I was thinking specifically about vacations, and having the time off to do so. But I did bring up how expensive it could be to travel in the first place, even to just another state. And I remember thinking how expensive it was just to get a passport.
Maybe I was on the nose about this in some way because traveling not only helps you mentally, but it exposes you to different ideas, people, and experiences, and as a result you will change in some way. And it’s so minute, like gaining empathy for another state.
Take my mom: she’s pretty Red, but she is heartbroken for California, Washington, and Oregon with their wildfires. Her other red friends are probably saying”Commi-fornia” deserves it, or that they don’t care. She wouldn’t have cared had she never been to these places before
And she has changed since I brought her overseas with me. Politically yes, she’s kind of the same, but now she calls out the Americans with the snide attitude about being “American.” It’s great, and I love it

My mom has changed because of traveling. In the best way ❤️
point is, there are many things at play systematically in this country that doesn’t seem coincidental. It’s interesting that right now people are struggling to pay for school, struggling to find work, struggling to work, struggling to take time off from work...
... struggling to enjoy their time off from work, struggling to take care of ourselves and our health, struggling to balance all of these things plus family and other obligations, struggling to just fucking live.

Life should not be this hard. It really shouldn’t.
Change is so god damn slow, but I am so happy that we are collectively becoming more aware of how much bullshit we go through just to exist in this country.

And at some point, we are going to have to thank movements like BLM because otherwise, we would have stayed asleep.
