Ok, here we go. Today's #LatinxHeritageMonth celebration #Thread is on... FRITURA!!!!!
Starting off is el PASTELILLO! You can have this delicious pockets filled with meat, cheese, or even make it dessert with guayaba!
Or how about una EMPANADILLA de pizza! YUM!
Side Note: Depending on where you're from in PR, you'll call both an empanadilla or depending on the crown, one gets called a pastelillo. This linguistic divide has led to the great PASTELILLO vs EMPANADILLA wars in PR.
Next up is el CHEESEDOG! True to our spanglish culture, the cheesedog is a hot dog, stuffed with cheese, wrapped in dough, then deep fried. This one is like one of my favorites!
This might blow your mind. In Puerto Rico, we call this a TACO! This one is square dough and stuffed with spicy meat.
Up next is another one of my favorites, RELLENOS DE PAPA! This is a mashed potato ball, sazoned up for your life then stuffed with meat, and fried.
ALCAPURRIAS are these amazing fritters that are made with a green banana, or plĂĄtano based or even yautia based dough, then stuffed with meat. My favorite son los de yautia!
SORULLITOS are corn fritters stuffed with cheese (or not stuffed). They are typically served with mayo-ketchup; however, my favorite way is for breakfast with dippy eggs!
Now a good BACALAITO is thin, crispy, and huge! They are stuffed with bacalao, but if you're like me and hate fish, most barely have bacalao so its just a crispy yumminess.
Ok not everyone will call this one a fritura, but I do. Here's the CHICHARRÓNES DE POLLO! Basically, golden nuggets of chicken super crisped up.
Now I already did tostones et al., so I'll skip those and jump right into el SORTIDO!
I know this is cheating, but a sortido is basically a bunch of fritura and fried cheese all on one plate.
Have any favorites? Add them to the #Thread! Do you have different fritura in your home, please SHARE!
Happy Friday to all! Y... buen provecho!
