“Queer is a slur and shouldn’t be used as an identity” discoursers are too young to remember the early 2000s when the use of “gay” as a pejorative was so prominent there were PSAs on television about why it wasn’t okay to use an insult.
Like I saw them on Nickelodeon.
Yet I see no one saying “gay” can’t be used as an identity (and no one should think that)—they save this energy for “queer” exclusively
For the love of god I’m not saying that gay is a slur or that everyone needs to be okay with the use of queer. All I’m saying is that “queer” is not unique in being used as an insult, and I’m sick of ppl hopping on queer positivity posts to concern troll.
I have said it like twenty times in responses to this tweet and I’ll say it again: every word we have ever used has been used against us. I’m just annoyed, as a queer person, that other LGBT+ ppl feel the need to single out “queer” like it’s unique in this way. It’s not.
