World Rugby is now the proud owner of the most transphobic, discriminatory guidelines for transgender people in sport in issuing an outright ban on trans women's participation.
Previously, the World Rugby policy required a full lower surgery - internal & external genital modification - in order to participate, following the old IOC policy which was changed in 2015 when the IOC acknowledged that asking a person to do so was a human rights violation.
The old World Rugby policy which required surgery was among the worst - and most restrictive - in the world.

With its new guidelines, World Rugby has created a dangerous level of discrimination in sport.
This transphobia is disguised as "protecting women in sport." World Rugby chose & manipulated stats & data to match their end goal, using studies that have no relevance to sport, and making broad assumptions based on stereotypes & myths about transgender people.
The "experts" consulted on the World Rugby policy include well-known hate groups with anti-trans agendas. The "science" used in the explanation was based on studies without relevance to the policy. To say this process was fair, inclusive, or transparent is an outright lie.
World Rugby was supposed to have a vote on this issue, but bypassed the feedback - which included many national governing bodies & athletes in opposition to a new policy - and dropped the new policy today. You can read it here: https://www.transathlete.com/policies-by-organization
