December 24th, 2019, I was detained by one officer called Julius in oshogbo, oke fia police station.
It started when his boys flagged my car down and asked me who owns the car, I said me. All he said was let’s go to the station, he entered the car.
On our way going, I wanted to call my lawyer but he took the phone from me angrily. I was driving confidently since I knew I have nothing incriminating with me. I got to their office in oke-fia and I was taken to his boss, Julius.
The policeman that stopped me said oga Julius this is one yahoo boy we caught on our way going to the place you sent us, that was when I knew his name is Julius. I was standing and wondering who’s the yahoo boy his saying because am the only one with him in Julius office. #EndSARS
To cut the story short, he asked me what am I doing for living, I answered I’m a farmer. He said “and you own this phone ?” , I said yes. He said is not possible that no farmer can ever afford Samsung S10+ that am a yahoo boy
He checked my phone and all he was hearing was the voice note I sent to my team about farm farm and farm only. He later said am a yahoo boy am just using farming to cover up. I insisted am not. I thought have seen enough, he said I should write a statement.
I started with my name, school I attended, my native town and the likes, when I got to where to write my profession, he said I should write “I’m a cyber criminal”, I was like wtf and you saying, he brought a cutlass out and was threatening me to write what he said.
That day, I don’t know where I got the courage from after seeing cutlass in Julius hand, I still insisted am not writing that. It was around 7:00pm. He promised to detain me, I thought it was a joke until I saw the form he filled, which my name was written on it and he signed,
that was when I knew am in real trouble.

Around 8:30pm, my shirt, watch, boxer was taken away from me. That was when I was seeing myself as a criminal. One officer took me to the cell and locked me with 5 other people . I cried for like 2-3hrs before I stopped
and started thinking of how am I going to leave here when none of my people know am here. To cut the bad night experience short, it was a traumatic experience for me.
The next day, one policewoman came to the cell and asked “hope you all have called your people that you are here”, I replied, “no ma” none of my people know am here. She saw my bitter face and gave me her phone,
I dialed my mummy’s number because that was the only number that came to my head then, I quickly narrated my journey how I got to the police station. She rushed down from iwo to oshogbo.
Surprisingly, It was like 3-4hrs later when I heard my name from one officer that I should come outside to wear my clothe. As I came out, I saw my mum and dad settled with them already. I did not ask anything because all I wanted was freedom
I couldn’t drive, my dad was the one that took the car. As I was in the car going home with my mum I asked her what happened with them. She said what the officer was saying is rubbish and he kept saying my son own a Samsung latest phone and what was ringing in her head was
“free your son and get out it here”. Mr.julius requested for 100k and she said 30k is all money with her, that’s how I was freed.
I will was so pained because it wasn’t because I don’t money to give them. I insisted because I don’t have anything unlawful or incriminating with me.
I’m a young boy trying to make in a living through Agriculture,
I’m not a criminal, but I was treated as one. #EndSARS
So sad I was freed for the reason I was detained.

This tweet isn’t for asking for justice, is for you to know and be reminded what police brutality means in my country. 😰😥
This tweet isn’t asking for grant from government as a farmer, this tweet is not asking for light, water or any other basic things a citizen that pay taxes should have.
We are just asking to live and not be brutalized by our own police that suppose to protect us.
