I submit to you that a one-dimensional rating system for books is almost meaningless, #writingcommunity, as the rating given to any book will depend upon the tastes of the reviewer. Unless the reviewer's tastes are known, the rating is necessarily equivocal...
I eard(*) a bestseller today to which I, subjectively, might have awarded 2 stars. Why? Because it offended my tastes in several ways. For example, about half its word-count was devoted to arbitrary digressions, which I consider to be padding...

...yet I believe that for many readers the digressions are an enjoyable and satisfying experience. Then what use is it for me to award the book two stars, when another might award five for the same reasons? What is the confused third-party to make of our varying scores?...
