The truth of the matter is that whatever the Premier League was doing around non normally televised matches for the 2020/21 season should have been boxed months ago. Any meeting today should have been about 2021/22. (1/5).
The decision to charge 15 quid to watch a match on the telly is ridiculous and wrong but the fact that it applies to matches in 8 days time tells us how deeply dysfunctional football has become. (2/5).
There is no leadership, no vision anywhere. There hasn't been for over a decade. Not from the leagues, the clubs, the FA, the Government or from supporters bodies. Everyone has kicked the questions/problems/opportunities down the road because inertia is easier. (3/5).
There was a chance to address that in March and April. But it was passed over not least because the football media decided it would rather talk about null and void rather than address anything structural because pissing off Liverpool (and Leeds etc) gets rageclicks. (4/5).
This is a short term idea that there is some money to be made and/or some pressure to be put on Government because it is the sort of thing 20 disparate entities can just about manage to agree upon. It isn't an answer. It isn't a plan. It is shitting the bed. (5/5).
