So, the way language works: I lived in France 7 years. 1 of housemates drank tisane at night (herbal infusion thing like tea). So, before bed she’d call out “tisane!” and we’d all gather at the kitchen table for our pre-bed drinks & snack whatever they were. Again for her >>>
it was actually tisane.

eventually she moved out but the tradition continued even w new housemate that when someone was preparing for bed they would call from the kitchen “tisane!” and everyone would come and have their beer, coffee, whatever & a snack before bed and talk >>>
so “tisane” got plucked from its context & re-contextualized to mean “intimate low key meeting of loved ones at day’s end w drinks & snacks” >>>
all of us have since moved on and out of that house

but, in each our respective homes, & w each our respective loved ones living there, the tradition of “Tisane” continues

and i love that. >>>
that five people, before bed, call out “tisane!” from their kitchen, meaning “come meet w me and talk and drink and eat yummy things and touch base w each other before we all go to bed”

it’s sweet 💙
