This will be a thread of contemporary poems I like ("contemporary" defined however I see fit). I'll probably add to it from time to time.
Franz Wright, "Bees of Eleusis". One of my favorite poems.
Susan Howe, from "The Nonconformist's Memorial". I'll brook disagreement over whether or not this counts as poetry, but not about whether or not it's brilliant.
Alan Grossman, "Quies, or Rest." I also love "The Salt Trade" but it's a bit long to post here.
Amy Clampitt, "Stacking the Straw".
Geoffrey Hill, "Lacrimae Verae". Most poets in this thread I don't know too well, I just like a few poems. Hill's different; I'm not quite a Hill completionist (got bogged down around Treatise on Civil Power) but close. This is one of my favorite but also read... oh, everything.
