This will be a thread of contemporary poems I like ("contemporary" defined however I see fit). I& #39;ll probably add to it from time to time.
Franz Wright, "Bees of Eleusis". One of my favorite poems.
Susan Howe, from "The Nonconformist& #39;s Memorial". I& #39;ll brook disagreement over whether or not this counts as poetry, but not about whether or not it& #39;s brilliant.
Alan Grossman, "Quies, or Rest." I also love "The Salt Trade" but it& #39;s a bit long to post here.
Amy Clampitt, "Stacking the Straw".
Geoffrey Hill, "Lacrimae Verae". Most poets in this thread I don& #39;t know too well, I just like a few poems. Hill& #39;s different; I& #39;m not quite a Hill completionist (got bogged down around Treatise on Civil Power) but close. This is one of my favorite but also read... oh, everything.
