THREAD: Hurricane #Delta is forecasted to make landfall THIS EVENING on southwest Louisiana — but if you live anywhere from Port O’Connor, TX to Mobile Bay, AL and inland from Little Rock, AK to Memphis, TN, this is your hurricane too! 1/7
The National Hurricane Center is forecasting storm surge from the AL through part of the TX coast. 4ft+ surge is forecasted from the LA-TX border to Fort Fourchom southwest of New Orleans. 7ft+ surge is forecasted from about the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge to Morgan City. 2/7
Everywhere circled on this map is forecasted to experience tropical-storm-force winds. Yes, that includes half of Arkansas and Alabama and even part of Tennessee — this is a large and fast-moving storm. You will feel the impacts too. 3/7
So what should you do? Go to https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/index_hls1+shtml/091555.shtml to find info specific to your local area. If you are in Delta’s immediate path on the LA coast or just east of it, get out now if you can, or shelter down if you can’t. Remember: run from the water, hide from the wind. 4/7
If you are in Delta’s direct path and you choose to stay, put a glass of water in your freezer. Once it freezes, put a coin on top. If the power goes out & the coin ends up at the bottom of the glass, your food is unsafe to eat. 5/7
And DO NOT run your generator in your house if you lose power! At least nine people died from carbon monoxide poisoning during Hurricane Laura just a few weeks ago because they ran generators inside their homes! 6/7
